Discover the Silvercoast by bike, a wonderful cycling holiday along beautiful beaches
This coastal tour which connects the beach of praia de Vieira with Colares, leads us alongside the northern sandy beaches and the more accentuated cliffs with small sandy beaches in the area north of Lisbon. Each of these beaches has their own fishing traditions.
The steep and undulating terrain is a bit more challenging on this tour compared with the northern tour of the Costa Atlantica. Little rivers find their way to the coast creating small valleys along which we will traverse, facing some short steep ascents.
The daily distances are normally short which will give us the opportunity to visit some stunning and dramatic beaches. Nazaré and Santa Cruz, known for their enormous waves, are famous the world over and considered to be a sanctuary for those who love to surf. Beaches such as Peniche and Ericeira are known for their fishing techniques and traditions, whilst other beaches such as Foz do Arelho or Azenhas do Mar are known for their architecture and natural beauty.
To get a taste of the local culture we’ll pass by Obidos, an ancient walled city known for its ‘ginginha’ (cherry liqueur), its bookshops and it’s architecture. The tour ends in Colares, at the foot of the Sintra mountain range and natural park where some of the best wines of the Lisbon region are produced.
